The place
Vallescura, Oregon. Fog and cliffs, and nobody who remembers it.
Population: 8,402. Unofficially, it depends on the night.
For three weeks now a curfew has emptied the streets at nine sharp.
And there are far too many offices open after midnight.
Via Principale
The cinema is closed by decree. The signs stay lit anyway.
The High School
Something breathes under the gym. The school prefers not to look into it.
The Pier
Nets, crates, and a fisherman who never asks what is in the water.
West Cemetery
The Count receives. He has lost a ring and a good deal of patience.
The Lighthouse
Punta Brughiera. It blinks in code: GO HOME.
The Beach
An open-air screen with no audience, and a bonfire someone keeps going.
The Funfair
Closed for years. The rides still turn now and then.

How it plays
Nine verbs, an inventory, and no tutorial holding your hand.
Fifty-nine hand-drawn locations, from the pier to the pit. Not one of them reused.
Characters who remember what you did and change their tone accordingly. Sometimes for the worse.
Chained puzzles, objects to combine, deductions, rituals — and 542 things to examine.
More than one way to prepare for the confrontation. And more than one way out of it.
The right form exists. This is not it. Fiscalio will tell you so with enormous courtesy.
Under the cobbles
Under Vallescura there is something that does not appear on any map.
Contracts. Pledges. Deadlines.
And someone who has been keeping the books for a very long time.
Hell takes nothing without a signature.
Which is a problem. And also the only way out.

Who you'll meet
Almost nobody here is who they say they are. Several of them are not even alive.
Loose-skinned demon. Protagonist against his will.
A coward, polite, with a name earned one favour at a time. He came for the Tuesday poker game.
«A bald barber with a handlebar moustache. Trust has to be earned, I suppose.»
Demon, usurper, terrible loser.
Courteous. Precise. About as reliable as a clause written in pitch.
«You can frighten a creditor, demon. You cannot convince him the debt does not exist.»
Archivist. Civil servant. Administrative nightmare.
The law made paperwork. He does not hate you: he files you.
«Do tell me. But tell me on a form. Spoken word is not on record.»
Barman at the Last Hand.
The town's rough conscience. He pours drinks and, when needed, the truth.
«Keep it, pal. In here we only take stories and tips.»
Fortune teller. Former scholar, back when the Council still paid.
She always tells you where to look. Never what you will see.
«I give the truth to whoever makes themselves useful.»
Count. Vampire. Permanent resident of the cemetery.
He has seen more nights than anyone in town and remembers every one. He wants his ring back.
«May the best man… that is, ME, win!»
Singer. Head and body, separately.
Contractual matter. She sings anyway, and better than before.
Long-standing regular. Part of the furniture, and proud of it.
He keeps a chair free on Tuesdays. He has never said who for.
«My place is here at the bar. From here you see everything: the cards, the door, and how much is left in the glass.»
Lines taken from the game.
Ten kittens hidden around town. Eight judges in court. Neither group is on your side as a matter of principle.
Soon you can find them all

Vallescura wants a mouse and a wide screen. It runs on a phone, but the click targets are small.
